My Role: Design of both sites & build of RideStrong
There is little doubt that cycling is on a roll and for good reason. Cycling has enormous benefits for our health, our well-being, and for the planet. But for cycling to be successful, to go beyond a sport and become the cultural norm, it needs guidance. That’s the job and purpose of BikeNZ. They provide support, structure, development, guidance, governance and money to the sport of cycling. BikeNZ created a world first by bringing all forms of cycling – everyday (commuting), recreational and competitive – under one organisational structure. This year BikeNZ along with the creativity and expertise of Robertson Communications in Wellington began building the foundations for their new brand and the birth of RideStrong.
RideStrong is a brand new cycling community created to give New Zealander cyclist (like me) a much stronger voice that can be heard amongst the 3.8 million cars on the road, and that will enable everyone who shares the passion to come together and advocate for a fair share. The RideStrong social networking community website links like-minded cyclists via forums, blogs, and user groups. Wikis provide ever evolving information and knowledge and the media galleries showcase everything from individual photo albums to national event videos.
The RideStrong community is all about sharing, collaboration and entertainment. The RideStrong community website will be the central hub for all cyclists to have their say and to assist in influencing and shaping the future of cycling.
And the best thing is I got to design it and help build it! Fantastic! As a keen cyclist I was extremely enthusiastic about this project and I hit the ground running. My previous experience with designing a large online community site proved to be an asset and I was able to effectively guide BikeNZ and the team throughout the journey.
The project required two sites to be built, the BikeNZ corporate website and the RideStrong Community website. It was important that there was a close visual relationship between the two sites and that navigating from one to the other was seemless.
Now that you know about it, why not sign up yourself and join the cause!
